Patch Test (Dermatological Test)
The Patch Test is one of the most important safety assessments for cosmetic products, as it evaluates the product’s skin compatibility and its potential to cause irritation or allergic reactions following topical application. The test is conducted under dermatological supervision on a group of healthy volunteers, in accordance with the Cosmetics Europe Guidelines and Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009.
What does the test include?
The product is applied using the Semi-Open Patch Test method on a group of 10–45 healthy adult volunteers with no known history of skin allergies. Skin reactions are assessed by a dermatologist 48 hours after application, with any signs of irritation, such as erythema (redness) or oedema (swelling), carefully recorded. Where necessary, an additional evaluation is performed 96 hours after application.
